KY Project Committee Inc.
The KY Project Committee Inc. was formed to pursue the idea of painting a mural on the clear water tank on Goulburn Valley Water’s site in Kyabram. Negotiation between the Committee and GVW has taken over two years but we now have approval to proceed with the project.
This is a great opportunity to put Kyabram on the ever increasing art trail throughout Victoria and boost tourism to the region.
The mural will be of huge benefit to local businesses as proven by other towns on the art trail. It will bring RVs and visitors to Kyabram 7 days a week, 12 months of the year, many staying overnight in local accommodation, caravan park, motels, etc. Visitors can park their RV’s at The Tank and walk into town.
Well renowned artist Jimmy DVate has been commissioned to paint the mural themed around native flora and fauna in the district. Jimmy is well known for his outstanding work on the Rochester and Goorambat silos as well as the Gunbower Hotel and is an advocate for bringing to public attention the issue of endangered species and conservation.
It will also be the third Jimmy DVate mural in the Campaspe Shire and so another reason for tourists to come into our area to boost our local economy.
The mural will also provide an educational link to the Kyabram Fauna Park as schoolchildren from all parts of Victoria are bussed to the education centre at the park. They can view the artwork on the water tank as part of their program.
Our Committee will also bring to public attention water conservation and endangered species. Kyabram will be unique with the wetlands and endangered species theme in conjunction with the fauna park, where visitors will be able to view some of the bird species in their environment.
This will be a great boost to local business at a time when country towns need tourism support.
